Police charge 21-year-old in Rody assault case

BLACKSBURG – Blacksburg police have made an arrest related to the assault of Virginia Tech reserve quarterback Brian Rody, a department spokesman said Thursday morning.

Luke Allen Allison, 21, was taken into custody early Sunday morning, initially for public intoxication. He was then charged with malicious wounding in connection with a fight that left Rody unconscious in a parking lot of the 100 block of Draper Road, lieutenant Nathan O’Dell said.

Allison was identified by witnesses and was arrested not far from where police found Rody at 1:57 a.m. on Sunday.

A hospital spokesman at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital confirmed that Rody was discharged Tuesday.
The 6-foot-6, 236-pounder played high school football at Stone Bridge in Ashburn. He redshirted in 2011 and has been on the scout team the last two seasons.
