Tech’s Eddie, Ugoka named ACC players of the week

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech senior forwards Jarell Eddie for the men and Uju Ugoka for the women won this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference basketball players of the week honors.
Eddie followed up a career-high 34-point performance against Winthrop last Tuesday with a 24-point effort in Virginia Tech’s win over Miami on Sunday, earning him the honor.
Against Miami, Eddie scored Tech’s final 11 points in regulation and scored the game-winning points in overtime as the Hokies opened ACC play with a win over last year’s regular-season and tournament champions.
Against Winthrop, Eddie equaled his career best by going 6 for 8 from 3-point range while setting his new high for points.
For the women, Ugoka posted back-to-back double-doubles against Big Ten opponents to earn her ACC player of the week honor. Ugoka scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Hokies’ loss to Indiana in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge last week, then followed it up with a 19-point, 10-rebound showing in Tech’s upset win over Michigan State on Sunday.
